Is There Anti-freeze In My Pet Shampoo?

We often hear the myth that the pet grooming industry includes a toxic anti-freeze ingredient in pet shampoos. This myth comes from a mix-up between ethylene glycol (EG) and propylene glycol (PG). The first one is a moderately toxic chemical harmful to pets, for the second is an organic alcohol that is not toxic and used in cosmetics in general. There are plenty of dog shampoos on the market this day, traditional and organic and it is a fact there is no Ethylene Glycol(anti-freeze) in pet shampoos full stop.

Most of the traditional ingredients of pet grooming products have been well-researched. It’s the newer, so say ‘natural’ ingredients that are least studied. But the growing stringency of Government Regulations regarding Quality and Safety Standards for Pet Products should put us, dog lovers, in the comfort zone. If you using a new product, please monitor your dog for any reaction and try a small amount first. Despite all said, my advice, always chooses those pet’s products that have the ingredients listed on the label.
